05/03/2009 Auckland (NEW ZEALAND)

We step in Oceania! The continent where I had never been!

We rent a car and a van and driving automatic transmission and launch left me in the streets of Kiwi!
Following the map we get lost several times and driving on the left became an often follow ...
We are staying all'Auckland Lodge, a wooden structure looking British / colonial. There are backpackers from around the world, also know a girl from Tahiti, French Polynesia and admired ask: "What does it feel to live in paradise?"

Leave backpacks and run the museum in Auckland. Interesting section devoted to Maori, the indigenous population. Their history, their art, their tools ... I hit the bag collection interwoven with threads of hemp from the islands of Oceania: Marquesas, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Fiji, etc.. As always happens to me, while I admired, but imagine skeletal brawny men with long beards and the private parts covered only by a huge cloth or women from the hills adorned with wreaths of flowers worked quietly these bags ...

Walking around the city we see that many walks or jogging are barefoot and later when I talk strangely Baker answers me candidly: "We like to feel completely free."

06:03:09 Taipa (NEW ZEALAND)

After leaving Auckland we head north ... So many curves lead us to the Waipoua Forest, famous for "Kauri", a kind of redwood. Half-hour trek up to the ancient tree trunk of 14 meters in diameter that is said to have 2000 years.
Two thousand years ago when Jesus was born in Israel, in this corner of the world burgeoned a map ...

After much wandering we finally reached our destination: Kaitaia. The hostel is nice, surrounded with a great kitchen or supplied but we decide to eat out, the "Sea Dragon"! Fish and chips for me!

In the evening, dragging the group into an amusement park, I expected a classic American hot dog with kiosks or cotton candy, however, was very skinny, the rest I could expect from a forgotten village well off the map?

07:03:09 Kerikeri (NEW ZEALAND)

The lighthouse at Cape Reinga is very suggestive, as well as marking the northern terminus of New Zealand, is exciting because it is the meeting point of the Tasman Sea with the Pacific Ocean. I was impressed to see the waves crashing in from the other side. How wonderful is nature!

The sand dunes of Te Paki, "we meet a group of boys and girls in London who threw from the top with small surf and sand streaking these mountains ... It 's been fun to climb and then wade across the creek barefoot to return to our cars.
The rest of the day is spent grinding km and km in this huge green spot at the end of day odometer inform me that I drove for 350 km!

The girls cook, prepare the big dinner Paolino shower Mimmo check email, Bruno leggicchia Classic Kiwiana "found in the hostel and I relaxed, I enjoy these unforgettable moments!

The hostel where we are staying for the night: "Farm Hotel is very special, all floors, is a real house, kitchen, living room and some room for visitors. Maintained by a couple of Germans who "landed" here a year ago on the road, will our age, and then run it on behalf of the owner ..

08:03:09 Whitianga (NEW ZEALAND)

Paihia this morning we embarked impossible to name the island "Urupukapuka.
Walking on those grassy meadows with grazing sheep that we are the setting and backdrop of the picturesque Bay of Islands, Bay of hundred islands in the far north of the country, where it landed early in the fourteenth century Maori. They came from Polynesia, aboard thin canoes with rockers, led by the navigator Kupe, which he named New Zealand "Aoteratoa", the island's large white cloud.

The trees that pupils are never embrace but that offer shelter from sun and rain in addition to rest after climbing the hill ...

Whitianga is really empty .... Even find a place for our dinner was difficult and eventually we stopped at a Thai restaurant.

Another hostel! Amaze me ... So far we have always stayed in a different city every night and this thing goes well with a gypsy like me ...
